TRENTON RESTORATIVE STREET TEAM

Trenton Restorative Street Team (TRST) provides violence prevention and intervention programming through education, advocacy, conflict resolution circles, and proactive community engagement. TRST is a group of professionally trained community engagement practitioners committed to promoting peace and healing through restorative justice practices and trauma-informed care. We operate in the North and West Wards, connecting with residents through community events, walks, roundtable discussions, and forums.

SAFE PASSAGE UNIT

The Safe Passage Unit is dedicated to ensuring that middle and high school students travel to and from school safely. By providing a secure and supportive environment, the program aims to protect students from potential hazards and violence during their commutes. Staffed by community residents, the Safe Passage Program offers assistance at key points around the school, and rapid response to any incidents that may arise. Through collaboration with neighborhood organizations, the program not only enhances student safety but also fosters a sense of community and trust among residents. The initiative empowers students to focus on their education without the fear of unsafe travel, contributing to their overall well-being and academic success.

TRENTON RESTORATIVE RESPONSE UNIT

Trenton Restorative Response Unit (TRRU), an alternative 911 response model, aims to provide immediate, empathetic, and effective support to residents experiencing crisis within the community. The program prioritizes overdose prevention and mental health support over traditional policing methods. Trained professionals manage calls and respond to incidents related to mental health crises, substance abuse, and non-violent incidents, connecting residents to appropriate resources and services.

RESTORATIVE REENTRY SERVICES UNIT

The Restorative Reentry Services Unit (RSSU) supports residents transitioning back into the community after job training, housing assistance, and social services designed to achieve several important objectives. Firstly, it aims to reduce recidivism by providing the necessary support and resources to residents thereby decreasing the likelihood of reoffending and returning to incarceration. Secondly, the program seeks to promote successful reintegration, facilitating a smooth transition back into the community and helping individuals build stable and productive lives.

GUNS DOWN GLOVES UP

The Guns Down Gloves Up six-week summer program for young people is a transformative initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and promoting peace within the community. This program provides participants with a safe and engaging environment where they can explore alternatives to violence through educational workshops, mentorship, and recreational activities. Designed to empower youth, the program focuses on leadership development, conflict resolution skills, and fostering a sense of community responsibility. By engaging young people in positive and constructive pursuits, the Guns Down Gloves Down program not only helps to deter them from engaging in violent behavior but also equips them with the tools and support they need to thrive and contribute positively to their surroundings.
